We Deserve This.

The French philosopher Joseph de Maistre once said, “Every nation gets the government it deserves.” His quote has been attributed to dozens of people over the years including President Harry Truman among others, but this post isn’t about who wrote it, but rather what it means.

I wanted to briefly write about Republican Senatorial Candidate Kelly Loeffler who is running to be Georgia’s next Senator. Loeffler was appointed by governor Brian Kemp to replace Johnny Isakson who retired because he suffered from dementia (some additional members of Congress should follow suit), so this is her first election. Loeffler is in a runoff with the Reverend Raphael Warnock because neither candidate obtained 50% in the general election in November.

Loeffler is filthy rich, lives in a house as big as Tiger Woods and owns the Atlanta WNBA Team. Her players hate her because Loeffler is an outspoken critic of Black Lives Matter and her players routinely wear shirts that support Reverend Warnock. Loeffler is from Illinois, not Georgia although she does have a mansion there. She’s married to a man who runs the New York Stock Exchange, from New York. Loeffler spent her career before the Senate in banking, sold her stocks in early 2020 after receiving information about Covid in a February Intel Committee Hearing, bought some more stocks in companies like Zoom after receiving that same information long before any Republican ever acknowledged publicly to us that Covid was even a thing. So Senator Loeffler got rich off the pandemic before we even knew it was happening.

There’s more. She was investigated for her insider trading but the investigation was dropped days after her husband cut a check for $1 million to a Trump Super-PAC that supported his reelection. Senator Loeffler also has zero personality whatsoever (watch her debates on YouTube, she’s a robot), has really no policy initiatives of any kind, only answers questions with “radical left,” Socialism” and “I have voted with President Trump 100% of the time.” Loeffler is so bad that she recently said giving $2,000.00 in stimulus money to unemployed, needy Americans was Socialism until President Trump supported it. She then changed her position by immediately supporting the increased stimulus but of course, failed to criticize Mitch McConnell for unilaterally blocking a vote on a clean $2,000.00 stimulus bill. Loeffler also came out today in support of the objection to the electoral college, which puts her squarely among the Trumpiest of Senators. Lastly, Loeffler at her rallies has disingenuously tried tying the Reverend to Jefferey Epstein because one of Epstein’s lawyers donated money to the Warnock campaign.

On the other hand, Warnock is a black pastor at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The Church was built in 1886 and Martin Luther King Sr. and his son Martin Luther King Jr. were both pastors of this same church and MLK Jr.’s funeral was held there in 1968 as was John Lewis’s funeral earlier last year. Warnock also happens to be pro-choice despite being a man of faith, which is the default position of most Democrats but also puts him at odds with most of the white Evangelicals that live in Georgia. Warnock was born in Georgia and lived there is whole life. As for the Reverend’s politics, Reverend Warnock’s true weakness in this election other than his pro-choice view is that he also has some rather routine progressive views on certain issues that differ from many Georgians.

For example, Reverend Warnock believes that one cannot serve in the U.S. military while also serving God. Warnock also eschews how capitalism (at least America’s most recent versions) have harmed the black community. Another criticism might be that Warnock feels that Israel violates Palestine’s sovereignty on a regular basis. Again, relatively typical democratic positions to take, but certainly not disqualifying and most certainly defensible and grounded in reality. Would it not be beneficial for everyone to add a diverse member to the Senate; one who comes from the Church? To my knowledge, Senator Warnock would be the only member of the Senate with a pastoral background.

Frankly, I don’t know if Reverend Warnock would be a good Senator, but I know Kelly Loeffler has already been a bad one.

When Georgians vote tomorrow, I would be absolutely shocked if either Democrat wins a Senate seat. We’re talking about Georgia and I just don’t think Georgians have the guts to send someone to the Senate with a “D” next to their name. Instead, they’re going to send a Yankee from Illinois with all the hallmarks of a coastal elite, the personality of the most boring cyborg on television and less ideas and originality than Marco Rubio. A cheater. A rich cheater who keeps getting richer and is unable to articulate coherent policies and map out unique ideas for how she can help Georgians she no doubt has little interest in getting to know once this campaign is over.

In a state where I imagine that religion is a top three thing in most households, many white Georgians cannot and will not bring themselves to vote for a man of faith over the corporate stooge because of that “D” behind his name and that “R” behind hers. If the Reverend could win and if Jon Ossoff could beat David Perdue (who also was investigated for insider trading and has admitted to working with the Communist government to outsource jobs to China), the Senate could, for example, pass the $2,000.00 stimulus checks on their first days in the Senate.

Instead, Georgia will almost surely vote for two Corporate Republicans who will hand over their votes to Mitch McConnell and nothing different will happen – even though everyone in this country agrees that things need to change.

That America, is the Government you choose and therefore the Government you deserve. A completely broken one.

  1. Another great perspective Mike. I agree with most of what you’ve written. Except for the chances Georgia has to vote Democratic for these 2 seats. Are you on TikTok? You need to be. Its like a crystal ball for whats going to happen. Tiktok basically says Georgia will flip both seats to D.

  2. Also keep in mind over 2 million have already voted early. And dRumpf is telling the minions on the right not to even vote.

    • Thanks for commenting. I had not heard about the TikTok buzz about Georgia voting for both Democrats. I hope I’m wrong for sure, I’m just so cynical at the moment. I also might be trying some reverse psychology lol
