My Personal Democratic Primary Power Rankings

Here is my top 10 democratic contenders to oust Trump in 2020. The list is my own personal view, based on my subjective view of potential candidates. I will include possible candidates that have not announced they’re running yet and will include them in future updates until they officially announce they’re not running. This is a list that probably won’t mirror something you’d read on a mainstream website.

January 16, 2019 Top Ten

  1. Richard Ojeda – My guy Dick Ojeda is authentic, a veteran, an outsider, and a middle of the road guy with a real understanding and real solutions to problems in this country that go unaddressed. Don’t get me wrong, Ojeda is not going to win and that’s a given, but he should be given serious consideration from voters. I have sparred with people about him on twitter, but no one can give me a good reason not to take this guy serious.
  2. Beto – I doubt Beto ends up here for me in the end. I think he’s really a notch or two below what everyone says about him in almost every category. For example, he’s not really that handsome. He’s actually kind of a big goober. Except he’s super skinny. He’s sort of charismatic, but he’s actually kind of a big goober. Some say he’s a great speaker, but I don’t get that inspired by him and his voice is pretty annoying. But he’s young, he’s progressive and he’s willing to roll his sleeves up and do the hard work to win. He showed that in the Texas Senate race. I bet he could beat Trump in Texas too which would all but seal the deal.
  3. Sherrod Brown – I don’t know too much about Brown but he’s from Ohio and they love him there even as Ohio has shaded red the last few elections. He would probably carry all the rust belt states too, and I know his platform would be focused on blue collared workers and the opiate problems. Being from Ohio, he’d be tough for Trump to beat so that’s why you see him high on my list.
  4. Oprah – There were rumors a year ago that Oprah was running and people started flipping out. “We don’t need another celebrity . . .” What do we need then? Another robotic politician? No way. Oprah would be the outsider that some people were hoping Trump would be, but without the baggage and with a whole lot of empathy. I think Oprah would make an excellent candidate and I think she would run circles around most of these others. Not many people in this world are larger than “the machine” that is running this country into the ground. I think Oprah is one of those rare exceptions.
  5. Michael Bloomberg – I like Bloomberg for many of the same reasons that I like Oprah. He’s smart, rich and will self fund his campaign. Bloomberg was a good mayor of New York too so he has some executive experience. Bloomberg is really an independent so I like that about him, but he’s also a pragmatic person who has shown an ability to evolve with the times. For that reason, his age doesn’t bother me as much as others. He’s also ready to take on the gun lobby instead of providing lip service like some of these other candidates who have been in a position to actually make change. Bloomberg is also big on climate change and I think he’s the right guy to help transition the US economy into one powered by renewable energy and he’s the right messenger as well.
  6. Cory Booker – I once loved Cory Booker for his positive attitude but he’s not who he holds himself out to be. I think he can beat Trump and so he’s on the list for now however, but dude is over the top with every single thing he says or does. Nothing he does seems authentic and he’s basically a wolf in sheep’s clothing because of his ties to big business and Booker has a Super PAC before even announcing and some democratic contenders have sworn them off from the start.
  7. Kamala Harris – Kamala Harris is from my current residence of California. Harris is a robo candidate who never seems authentic no matter what she says or does. She’s been in the political spotlight from day one and has been groomed every step of the way. She always champions progressive causes but I saw very little of that during her brief stint as the Attorney General in California. I recall numerous police shootings and batteries and little was done while she was manning the top post in California. This was during the height of the BLM movement too. She can win however and it would be cool to see the first woman President be a minority and come from California.
  8. Amy Klobuchar – I don’t know much about Klobuchar but she is from my home state of Minnesota and I thought she handled the Kavanaugh hearing better than any democrat that I saw. Her midwestern roots will play well in the rust belt and should help with Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and maybe even Iowa.
  9. Elizabeth Warren – I don’t hate Warren and once upon a time, she inspired me too. Warren is definitely someone the voters can trust. She has a heart and great intentions. You know she’s a good Senator because the only criticism you hear about is her now untrue Native ancestry, which means nothing to me. She cares about consumer rights in a time when few do and that is important. But I don’t trust the federal government no matter who is in charge and Warren advocates constantly for more federal government. Not going to work with me.
  10. Joe Biden – I like Joe Biden a lot as a man. He inspires me almost every time I see him speak. His speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention was awesome. “WE OWN THE FINISH LINE!” As a candidate for President though – he’s too damn old. I want a fresh face with new ideas. Biden belongs to the establishment guard and my impression of the establishment is that they’re as slow as the sloths at the DMV in Zootopia when it comes to making change with the times. There are also numerous creepy videos of Joe doing weird stuff around women so that might neutralize the civility edge the democratic nominee should have over Trump in 2020. Sorry Joe. It’s time to let the new generation take over.
